You can complain to the Ombudsman up to 12 months after the date of the decision or matter that you wish to complain about. The deadline is calculated from the time when you have received the decision from the highest complaint authority. If you have written to the authority again (for instance asked for a resumption of the case), this does not normally delay the time when the 12 months deadline starts.
Remember that you have to have used all your other avenues of complaint before you complain to the Ombudsman.
Complaint about case processing time
If you are complaining about an authority’s case processing time, you do not need to wait until the authority has made a decision. But you must have used any possibility of complaining about the case processing time to other authorities.
