Anybody can complain to the Ombudsman

This applies whether you are of legal age, whether you are a Danish citizen, or whether you live in Denmark or not.

Please note that you do not have a right to have your complaint investigated. The Ombudsman determines which complaints he will examine in detail.

It is free of charge to lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman.

When will the Ombudsman reply

Are you not complaining on your own behalf? Are you not complaining on your own behalf?

The majority of citizens complain to the Ombudsman about their own case. However, you can also complain even though you are not a party to the case you are complaining about. For instance, if you wish to make the Ombudsman aware of any illegal or negligent conditions which you believe to be present in a public authority.

If your complaint concerns the private circumstances of another person, the Ombudsman will normally require a power of attorney in order to process the case.
